OCD FAQ’s

I haven’t got round to it yet, but soon I hope to have this page filled with FAQ’s about OCD, similar to the Tourette FAQ’s page.

Stay tuned!

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is recognised as a mental health disorder by the International OCD Foundation (IOCDF).

In the DSM-5 (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders), OCD is classified under “Obsessive-Compulsive and Related Disorders.”

Previously, OCD was often grouped with anxiety disorders, and there has been ongoing debate about how it should be categorised. However, in the DSM-5 it is no longer officially classified as an anxiety disorder.

The difficulty in categorising OCD also reflects why living with the condition can be complex, as it overlaps with several different psychological processes.

According to sources used by the International OCD Foundation (IOCDF), it is estimated that 1 in 40 adults have or will develop OCD in their lifetime. It is also estimated that 1 in 100 kids and teens have OCD.

Many! This article gives a few names, such as David Beckham. When we learn that even the most successful people out there aren’t perfect, we become a bit more comfortable with who we are.
