Clonic tics in Tourette syndrome

1 logged experiences

Clonic tics are the more rapid, sudden and often repetitive movements. Most of my tics consist of these, especially shoulder shrugs, head nods and eyebrow raises.

Some problems I experience with clonic tics:

  • They aren’t always the most intense or physically demanding, but they can be very painful over time, constantly working certain muscles over, and over, and over again.
  • I didn’t realise how noticeable some of these tics are, until someone pointed them out when I thought I was suppressing them somewhat. I often wonder if the more subtle tics result in more people misdiagnosing me with something else, as they aren’t the tics people are used to seeing in the media!
