You’re browsing cheap flights for a last minute getaway. You realise that you have an urge to repeat the ‘click’ of the mouse, but not by repeating the action. Instead you need to make a sound with the back of the throat.
It’s a new tic that hasn’t manifested before, brought on by this very specific sound.
With every click of the mouse, a click of the throat. And doing it so much really cements it’s place as a tic in your current list of tics experienced.
Work becomes a nightmare. You have to be there, you have to use the mouse and listen to every single person in the office do the same.
For hours.
Your colleagues notice this ‘odd’ sound you’re making, especially mid conversation. They remain polite, but it only adds to your self-consciousness, and growing throat pain.
Work is tough at the best of times, now this makes you want to walk out and never come back. How can I get through meetings? Presentations? It’s not worth thinking about.
Coincidentally looking for holidays was the trigger, and this is all I can think about right now. Get me on the beach.
