Hot temperatures can be a trigger for tics in some people. It seems like cold is more of a trigger, but some people experience an increase in the heat! This could also depend on where people are living, and what climates sufferers are familiar with.
Reddit poll resuts
I asked the r/Tourettes community if temperature affected their tics, with some interesting results.
Out of 159 people:
- 15 (including myself) felt that tics worsened in the heat.
- 88Â people felt the cold was a trigger
- 56 people didn’t feel any different
- One person told me they accidentally clicked ‘neither’ instead of ‘cold’ on the poll, hence why this summary is different to the image
A minority of people in my poll believe heat makes tics worse, and the reasons for this will vary.
