Palilalia involves the involuntary repetition of your own words, phrases or sounds. The repetitions may increase in speed or volume and can interrupt normal speech flow.

A 1998 publication in The Journal of Neuropsychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences reported that palilalia was estimated to occur in 6-15% of patients attending Tourette syndrome clinics.

A 1981 study described seven distinct types of palilalic speech repetition in a 29-year-old man, examining how repetition varied across different speaking tasks. 

A 2007 case study examined the acoustic features of palilalia, including how repeated words or phrases can change in speaking speed and volume. 

A 2021 study involving 227 people with Tourette syndrome identified 13 participants who had experienced mental palilalia, involving the repetition of their own words within their thoughts.
